Icebreaker Espionage is a creative game that can be used to introduce attendees to each other at your events. Using the Event App, attendees act as "agents" seeking to "eliminate" one another through methods such as:
- Accepting a business card from an enemy agent
- An enemy agent places a sticker on another agent without them knowing
- An enemy agent takes a photo with another agent
Or get creative and add a custom method!
Enabling Ice Breaker Espionage
To enable Ice Breaker Espionage, go to the "Discover More" tab in the CMS. Find the "Ice Breaker Espionage" feature and click 'Learn More', then 'Enable'. This will then add the "Ice Breaker Espionage" section to your event app layout. You have the option to change the name and icon of the section via the "Layout" tab.

With the game now visible in your event, go to the "Content" tab and select the section. You should see two boxes: non-player attendees and players. To add players to the game, simply click 'Add' to the left of the attendee image. You can also remove attendees from the game by clicking on 'Remove'.
To set up elimination methods, you can either use the default ones or create your own. If at any point you'd like to reset the methods to the default ones, just click 'Reset'.
Only admins can start a game. In order to select admins for your event, click 'Make admin' to the right of an attendee's name.
Once a game has been started, the window will change to say "Game is in progress". If you'd like to end a game, you can click on 'Abort'.
Icebreaker Espionage in the App
Attendees can access the Icebreaker Espionage game by tapping on the corresponding section in the app.
The first screen attendees will see allows them to select their method for elimination. This is the method that enemy agents will use to eliminate them from the game. Once an elimination method, attendees can tap on 'Next' to be taken to the game.
If a game has not been started yet by an admin, the screen will appear like below:
Accessing the Admin Panel
If you're an admin, in addition to aborting a game via the CMS, you will have several capabilities in the app to moderate the game. These capabilities are accessible via the admin panel. To view the admin panel, tap on 'Show admin panel'.
If a game hasn't yet been started you will see several options:
- By tapping on the red 'x', you can remove players from the game.
- By tapping on 'Start game with _ players' you can begin the game for the attendees that are shown on the players list.
With a game currently in progress, the options are slightly different:
- Tapping on the skull and crossbones image next to an agent's photo will eliminate that person from the game.
- Tapping on 'Abort game' will immediately end the game for all agents.
To leave the admin panel, tap on 'Hide admin panel' at any time.
Playing the Icebreaker Espionage
As an agent, once a game has been started and you've selected your elimination method, you will see your first target (from the players list).
Your current target will show the method you will need to use to eliminate them from the game. Once you have performed the method, you can officially eliminate that person from the game by tapping on 'Confirm Mission Complete'. A viewfinder window will appear, allowing you to scan that person's Secret Code.
Each agent's Secret Code can be accessed by tapping on 'Secret Code'. If an enemy agent has used your selected method of elimination you can show them your Secret Code to be eliminated.
At any time, you can view the current results of the game by tapping on the 'Leaderboard' section. The Icebreaker Espionage Leaderboard shows the latest agents that have been eliminated from the game, as well as the top agents by number of eliminations.
At the end of the game, the last agent standing is the winner.
